• What are your past experiences (if any) with the open source world?: I’m a member of OpenOffice.org Project, as a translator, documentator and managing the Spanish web site of oooauthors.org, patchs and bug triagging too. With GNOME, I participated on Bug Team Squad, on bug triagging, and adding some code on Postr application, and now with ProjectMallard.
• Why are you interested in improving GNOME? La Asociación GNOME Hispano, con la intención de promocionar el proyecto GNOME en todos los ámbitos y, segundo, intentar servir de punto de entrada al proyecto para los usuarios/desarrolladores que lo deseen, los invita a participar de la Charla IRC de Febrero.

Están cordialmente invitados, por favor compartan esta invitación con sus colegas, amigos, curiosos y fans Gnomeros. Así que no se olviden separar un tiempo para estar presentes en la charla.

La forma más rápida y simple de crear un wallpaper que cambie de imagen cada cierto tiempo así como la anterior, es entrar al sitio web creado por Bortoli German, llamado ClaSiFish.

ClaSiFish, permite crear mediante unos simples pasos, un archivo XML que luego se descarga y es ese archivo el que se elige como fondo de pantalla.

Y listo ya tenemos un wallpaper con imágenes personalizadas y que cambia cada cierto tiempo

Conky-colors es una forma muy simple y fácil de configurar Conky. Instalarlo es muy simple, la siguiente forma de instalación esta basada para Debian y Ubuntu:

Primero se deben instalar varios paquetes disponibles en los repositorios: python-statgrab ttf-liberation hddtemp curl lm-sensors conky-all. Desde la terminal las instrucciones serían:

sudo apt-get install python-statgrab ttf-liberation hddtemp curl lm-sensors conky-all

Luego de esta instalación se debe otorgar permisos a hddtemp

sudo chmod u+s /usr/sbin/hddtemp

Por ultimo se debe habilitar los sensores, y responder YES a todas las preguntas.

sudo sensors-detect

Una vez con todos los paquetes, anteriormente mencionados, instalados y configurados, procedemos a descargar conky-colors de la siguiente ubicación, y luego extraer el contenido de ese archivo. (Por lo general en el directorio donde se extrae aparece una nueva carpeta con el nombre conky_colors)

Luego desde la terminal, se escribe lo siguiente: (antes de continuar debes estar seguro de estar en el directorio donde se extrajeron los archivos)

make

Luego para visualizar las opciones de configuración de conky-colors se podría escribir: (Mostrara una lista de los parámetros de configuración disponibles)

./conky-colors –help

Luego de elegir que opciones se desean habilitar se debe escribir nuevamente el comando anterior acompañado de los parámetros que se desea, en mi caso los parámetros que elegí fueron los siguientes:

./conky-colors –lang=es –theme=gnome-human –cpu=2 –cputemp –swap –updates –proc=7 –clock=modern –calendar –nvidia –hd=default –hdtemp1=sda –network –gnome

Luego saldrá un mensaje: Congratulations, your conkyrc was createad , confirmando que el archivo conkyrc, necesario para la ejecución de conky, fue creado correctamente.

Por ultimo, para finalizar la configuración de conky

make install

Con todo esto al ejecutar conky (con un simple Alt+F2 y luego escribir conky) se debería tener un resultado similar a este:

Si se desea habilitar la ejecución de conky al inicio de la sesión se puede configurar esta ejecución desde Sistema > Preferencias > Aplicaciones al inicio , clic en Añadir y en orden escribir la ruta: ~/.conkycolors/bin/conkyStart

Y listo Conky funcionando en GNOME

Fue un día para conocer a otros entusiastas y desarrolladores de GNOME, por tradición el Día GNOME es un día en el cual existe un ambiente de libertad, amistad y buena onda,  para compartir ideas, sugerencias, molestias, proyectos, bromas, anécdotas y más.

Este año tuve la gran oportunidad de participar del Día GNOME 2009, gracias a la Fundación GNOME, pude asistir al Encuentro Linux 2009 y participar de manera activa de los eventos, preparamos una charla junto con Juan Rojas, llamada “Como volverse un Hacker Feliz de GNOME”, donde contamos nuestra experiencia participando en el proyecto GNOME y dimos algunas sugerencias para las personas que aun no participan y desean saber por donde empezar. Este año participamos tres peruanos en el Dia GNOME (Diego Escalante, Juan Rojas y yo).

Tuve el gusto de conocer a personas tan interesantes, divertidas, famosas en algunos casos y el clima de amistad fue muy bueno, entre los que conoci estuvieron: German Poo, Fernando San Martin, Alejandro Valdes, Jorge Bustos, Ivan Frade, Felipe Besoain, Fabian Arias, Ricardo Fuentes, Pedro Villavicencio, Alvaro Olivares, Miguel Ruiz, Juan Carlos Inostroza, Carlos Rios Vera, Daniel Galleguillos, Mario Gonzalez, Francisco Rojas, Christian Barahona, Fabio Duran, y más personas (a las cuales pido disculpas si es que no recorde ponerlas en esta lista).

Hubo de todo en el Día GNOME, charlas muy interesantes, regalos, stickers, polos o poleras, comida y bebida, amigos, muro del amor y el odio, diversion, entrevistas, fotos, videos, bromas, quejas, consejos, sugerencias, hasta la grabación de Drunk Podcast; fue el mejor dia de todo el Encuentro Linux 2009.

Por cierto con todo el entusiasmo del Día GNOME 2009, el 25 de Octubre en Viña del Mar nace GNOME Peru y hasta la fecha hemos participado en dos eventos en Peru, y los dos han sido muy satisfactorios , aqui fotos tomadas por Diego (Fesoli 2009 y UNAC 2009)  y Juan.

Viva GNOME

El día GNOME 2009, se llevo a cabo el día sábado 24 de octubre de 2009 en la Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María, en la ciudad de Valparaíso, Chile. Enmarcado dentro del Décimo Encuentro Linux realizado desde el jueves 22 al sábado 24 de octubre en dicha ciudad.

La Fundación GNOME me patrocinó con los pasajes, estadía y alimentación para poder participar del Décimo Encuentro Linux y del Día GNOME 2009 en Valparaíso Chile.

Aun quedan dos artículos mas que publicare, uno por el Encuentro Linux y el otro por el Día GNOME 2009, que por motivos laborales he postergado hasta esta semana.

Esta oportunidad me sirvió para hacer nuevos amigos, conocer muchas personas super interesantes, apreciar la labor de la Fundación GNOME, conocer a mis nuevos amigos de GNOME Chile, gente super genial y sobre todo me ha servido como gran motivación.

Gracias a todos los que hiceron posible esto, gracias Fundacion GNOME.

Deseo hacer capturas de pantallas de Gnome (para ponerlas en un manual, documentación, diapositiva, o en un post) de manera tal que muestre un menú en particular, incluyendo el pequeño mensaje de ayuda emergente (si ese mensaje de color amarillo, que describe algo en particular).

Solución no exitosa:

Presionar la tecla Imprimir Pantalla (PrtSc o Imp Pant)

o

Esta acción probablemente no producirá resultado alguno, es mas no aparecerá la ventana para guardar capturas de pantallas.

Solución Exitosa

En vez de usar las teclas para imprimir pantalla, mejor es llamar a la aplicación desde una terminal, pero indicándole un retraso de algunos segundos, ejm:

sergio@tuxknight:~$ gnome-panel-screenshot – -delay=10

Esto te dará 10 segundos en los cuales podrás ubicar el menú, desplegarlo y ubicar el puntero del mouse para que aparezca la ayuda descriptiva emergente, ejm:

update: esta solo es una de las muchas soluciones posibles, a mi me gusto esta.
